An 11-year-old Irish girl who died after jumping 20 metres from a hotel balcony in Mallorca “while her parents were sleeping” has been photographed for the first time.
Tributes have poured in for Clodagh Phelan, from County Wicklow, after she fell from the seventh floor of the three-star Club Mac resort in Puerto de Alcudia at around 6.30am on Monday morning.
The young woman’s relatives were reportedly sleeping when she stepped onto the terrace and leaned over the railing before falling onto the roof of a first-floor restaurant.
Paramedics and other emergency services attended the hotel and attempted to revive the young woman, but tragically she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed to Irish media this morning that they are treating Clodagh’s death as an accident.
Writing about X, Ireland’s Prime Minister, Taoiseach Simon Harris, said: “So much promise and character was taken away in a terrible accident.”

The young woman, who is 20 metres from the seventh floor balcony of her hotel, heads to the roof of a restaurant on the first floor.
The young woman’s relatives were sleeping when she went out onto the terrace and fell dead in circumstances that the police were investigating yesterday.
Clodagh athletics club Parnell AC also paid emotional tribute to the young athlete.
He said: ‘Parnell AC is truly heartbroken to share the devastating news of the passing of Clodagh Phelan, one of our junior athletes and a friend to many of our younger athletes.
‘Clodagh died tragically following an accident while on holiday. Clodagh was a beautiful, energetic child and a great athlete who excelled in many sports, not just athletics.
‘His family Valerie, Liam, Will and David and his extended family are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
‘As a mark of respect and to allow us all to grieve the loss of Clodagh, there will be no training until further notice.’
Rathdrum Rugby Club said its members were “shocked by the tragic news of the passing of our much-loved club star”.
In a statement, the club said Clodagh was “a rare talent with an exceptional future ahead of her”.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and we will support them in any way we can,” he added.
The family at the centre of the tragedy are believed to have been planning to return home yesterday.
Following the tragedy, a regional emergency coordination centre offered the young man’s family trauma counsellors.
A well-placed source said yesterday: ‘The girl who died was one of three siblings.
‘The family were due to return to Ireland today.
‘The girl’s parents were sleeping when she fell and had no idea what had happened until later.’
The tragedy comes just weeks after Irish physiotherapist Michael Grant died suddenly while on holiday in Magaluf.
The 45-year-old man, from Waterford, was found unconscious near the famous Punta Bellena tourist area, packed with late-night bars, nightclubs and erotic dancing venues, at around 4.30am.
Mr Grant was on holiday in Magaluf with his wife Leanne and their four children and other family from Ireland when the tragedy occurred.
