Manchester United fans have noticed an incredible similarity in Kobbie Mainoo’s goal against Liverpool and a Red Devils goal in 2009.

With the score tied 1-1 after goals from Luis Díaz and Bruno Fernandes, Mainoo took a step forward.

The 18-year-old collected the ball on the turn, before giving Man United the lead at Old Trafford.

While fans took to social media to praise the youngster for his goal, they also spotted a “crazy parallel” to a goal scored at Old Trafford in 2009.

The similarities in the goals go beyond the action on the field, and fans even noticed what was happening with the advertising signs on both goals.

His goal had many similarities with Federico Macheda’s in 2009.

Despite the visitors’ dominance, Mainoo put Erik ten Hag’s team ahead with a good shot in the second half.

When the goal went in, Man United fans took to social media to compare it to a previous goal scored.

‘Who did it better? Federico Macheda? Or Mainoo? asked a follower.

The fan was referring to a goal scored by the young Italian in 2009, where he received the ball from Ryan Giggs before making an incredible turn in the area to shoot off-balance into the top corner.

“Reminiscent of Macheda, just wild,” said another fan.

However, it was not just the goal itself that reminded fans of that Macheda goal.

One eagle-eyed fan caught wind of the fact that the exact same advert was being reproduced on the boards at old Trafford, 15 years later.

The ‘BetFred’ advert with the exact same logo and color scheme was displayed around the pitch at the time Mainoo scored his goal, the same advert during Macheda’s goal.

“The Betfred ad is a crazy parallel,” said one fan.

While the action on the field reminded fans of the goal from 15 years ago, it’s an incredible coincidence that the scoreboard showed the same thing all these years later.
