A domestic cat caused a stir on a popular Sydney beach on Sunday after it was seen lounging on the sand, surrounded by sunbathers.

The feline, apparently tied, was enjoying the afternoon sun on Maroubra beach, in the southeast of the city.

However, their presence caused mixed reactions among locals, since cats, like dogs, are prohibited from entering the beach.

One called the owners stupid.

“Some people shouldn’t have pets,” one woman said.

“The cat is not happy, I hope it doesn’t urinate or defecate,” said another.

“It’s a good time for this to happen,” added a third.

Many jumped to the defense of the adventurous cat.

“My cat loves the beach,” said one woman.

“Just remember: dogs and cats never leave as much trash, trash or droppings as humans,” another agreed.

‘People can keep dogs on beaches even when they ignore the rules; “It’s still okay because dogs are so cute and are humans’ best friends,” a third argued.

‘But to give people such a hard time when they bring their cat, why? “I didn’t see anything wrong in the photo,” said a fourth.

‘To be honest, this cat was very comfortable exploring the area, greeting people to pat them. “He was well liked and seemed happy with his leadership,” another added.

According of the cat According to cat journalist Kristian Hitchcock, whether cats enjoy the beach depends on several factors.

‘The most important thing is: is your cat used to venturing outdoors on a harness and leash under your constant supervision, and is he comfortable with outside noise and the unpredictable challenges it can bring?

“Otherwise, your cat is not a good candidate for a visit to the beach, as other people, animals, traffic, and noise can easily scare him, which can lead to injury or your cat escaping.”

Randwick Council, which covers the Maroubra Beach area, says cats are not allowed on the following locations: beaches, children’s play areas, food preparation areas, community centres, schools and nurseries.
