Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Holden Trent has died at the age of 25.

The Philadelphia Union has announced the sudden and shocking death of goalkeeper Holden Trent at the age of 25.

The club confirmed the goalkeeper’s death in a statement released on Saturday afternoon. No cause of death has been revealed.

“The Philadelphia Union is devastated by the heartbreaking passing of Holden Trent,” the club said. “While he was a wonderful player and fierce competitor, he was more importantly a devoted son, brother, fiancé and teammate who made those around him better.”

‘He embodied the true meaning of determination, dedication and perseverance, and will be deeply missed. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, her fiancé and her friends. “Out of respect for Holden’s friends and family, we will not be making any further statements at this time and ask that their privacy be respected as they grieve.”

Trent’s family also issued their own statement via their son’s Instagram account.

‘We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. “Holden passed away this afternoon surrounded by his family and friends,” the family said.

‘Details regarding services and celebration of life will be released soon. “Our family is deeply touched to see and experience the love you all have for Holden.”

Major League Soccer also released a statement saying, “Trent, a young goalkeeper with a bright future, demonstrated determination and professionalism every day while contributing to Philadelphia’s tight-knit goalkeeping unit.”

‘We extend our deepest condolences to his fiancée, his family and friends, his teammates and the entire Philadelphia Union community. “MLS is coordinating with the club to provide players and families with the resources and support they need during this tragic time.”

Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Trent played college football at West Virginia University and High Point University. He also played with the academies of USL clubs Charlotte Independence and South Georgia Tormenta FC.

From there, the Union selected him 28th overall in the 2023 MLS Super Draft.

According to the club’s website, Trent made six appearances for Philadelphia’s MLS Next Pro team, with his most recent playing time coming against New York Red Bulls II on June 26 of this year.
