Nick Syrianni could lose his job as Philadelphia Eagles head coach if they exit the playoffs early

It has been reported that Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni needs to avoid an early exit from the NFL playoffs to keep his job secure.

The Eagles are 13-3 heading into their final regular-season game against the New York Giants on Sunday and Sirianni entered the 2024 campaign under heavy scrutiny.

His team suffered a humiliating collapse in the second half of last season, losing five of its final six regular-season games and then being eliminated in the wild-card round of the playoffs by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Sirianni’s Eagles also got off to a stuttering start this time around, entering their bye week at 2-2 and the head coach seemed to feel the strain. Since then, however, they are 11-1.

But according to ESPN’s Jeremy FowlerSirianni still has work to do to make his job completely secure for next year.

“Nick Sirianni has quieted the preseason noise with the Eagles’ 13-3 season,” Fowler wrote.

‘Would a first-round playoff exit reignite conversations about his job situation? It’s hard to say, but it’s a question some people around the league are asking. Syrianni’s record of 47-20 is impressive.

“However, his position was a talking point after a tumultuous 2023 campaign, and he does not have a contract extension in place.

“Any dismissal here would be a considerable surprise, but if we talk about surprises, this would be one to mention because its status was a regular debate four months ago.”

In October, the Eagles head coach apologized after appearing to respond to dismissal taunts by touching his ear and yelling at fans sitting nearby.

And in December, he clashed with Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz after the Eagles lost 36-33.

The incident was reportedly sparked by Sirianni taking issue with how hard Ertz high-fived him at the end of the game and responded by mocking him for only making one catch.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s ‘Uncovering the Birds’ podcast said Sirianni later apologized to Ertz, a player who once briefly coached with the Eagles, over Zoom.
