PGA Tour golfer Erik Compton has been arrested after he allegedly threw his wife against a wall during an argument at their home in Florida.
Compton, the world No. 1,065 who finished tied for second at the 2014 US Open, has been held in Miami-Dade County felony custody.
According to the police, Compton and his wife were arguing over ‘relationship issues’ when things escalated after she pulled out her mobile phone and started recording.
Compton, 43, is accused of snatching the phone from her hand and throwing it in their swimming pool.

The golfer then allegedly grabbed her by the shoulders and threw her against a wall. Compton’s wife reportedly suffered small bruises to her left arm.
She then left the house, going to a friend’s house before calling the police. Compton was arrested for armed robbery – a second degree felony – and misdemeanor assault.
He declined to speak to police about the incident, according to reports.
The 43-year-old turned professional in 2001 and has a career-high world ranking of 71. He has never won a PGA Tour event, but has won nearly $5 million in prize money.
This year he played in two tournaments and won $43,057 in prize money.
Compton is perhaps best known for surviving viral cardiomyopathy, a condition that sees the heart become inflamed and struggle to pump blood efficiently.
Compton was forced to undergo two heart transplants, the first at the age of 12 after a routine medical examination led to the diagnosis of viral cardiomyopathy.

Six years later, he was the No. 1 ranked junior golfer in the United States, but in 2008 he suffered a heart attack after being driven to hospital.
“I parked the car, went down the stairs and that’s when I passed out,” he recalled years later. This led to a second transplant. It was said after his US Open success in 2014 that Compton was the only heart transplant recipient to ever play professional golf.
‘Do Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have more stamina? Probably… But golf is a different kind of strength. It’s more about mental toughness and mental fatigue,” he said.
“I don’t care so much about results, I go out and play…of course I want to play as best I can, but in the end it doesn’t matter.”
He added: ‘There are days when I feel different, and there are days when I feel good – it’s just the nature of the beast…it’s more of an emotional thing because you fear d ‘have another problem, but I ‘I’m very in tune with my body. And I don’t know what it’s like to feel normal, because I’ve lived most of my life abnormally.
