PFA calls on lawyers to investigate complaints they have received following their recommendation from Maheta Molango to replace Gordon Taylor as CEO

  • The PFA has asked an independent attorney to investigate the complaints they have received
  • Complaints came from their recommendation of Maheta Molango as their CEO
  • Molango, a Swiss lawyer, was named as Gordon Taylor’s replacement last week
  • However, there are complaints about the PFA’s recruitment process

The PFA has asked an independent attorney, Peter Crowther of Winston & Strawn, to investigate complaints they have received following their recommendation of Maheta Molango as the union’s new CEO.

In another twist in the extraordinary three-year saga of the PFA’s attempts to replace Gordon Taylor, Sportsmail revealed last weekend that two of the four other shortlisted candidates for the position of chief executive have filed complaints about the recruitment process.

The PFA is continuing their overhaul, but is also investigating complaints that are believed to be largely focused on John Mousinho’s central role.

The Oxford United defender was involved in the selection of the advisory panel that led the recruitment process before attending the final round of interviews, and offered his own services as a candidate if Molango turned out to be unavailable.

The 34-year-old is also a member of the PFA players’ board, which unanimously approved Molango’s appointment last week.

Crowther has been tasked with investigating the PFA’s recruitment process after being recommended by Sports Resolutions, the arbitration service responsible for the independent review of the union’s governance that was completed last year.

The review has yet to be made public and Molango will be called upon to do so, assuming his nomination is ratified.

The PFA announced on Tuesday candidates who wish to join a new player board, which will consist of two players from each of the top four divisions and the Women’s Super League, and three who have retired.

The players seeking to be chosen in the vote of all members are Tyrone Mings, Wes Morgan, Tom Heaton and Troy Deaney.
