King Charles’ nephew has revealed that he is in “good spirits” but that his recovery is taking “a little longer” than expected.
Peter Phillips, 46, said the King is “hugely frustrated” because he can’t go out and do everything he wants.
But Phillips, the only son of Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, added that his uncle is “pragmatic” and knows he needs to “focus on himself” for a while to get better.
Visiting Australia as a patron of the ISPS Handa charity, he said Sky News UK that King Charles is “pressuring” his staff to allow him to resume more royal duties, against the advice of his medical team.
He told the news channel: “He’s in a good mood, but in the end he’s very frustrated.”

Peter Phillips, 46 (pictured in March at the Cheltenham festival) said the King is “hugely frustrated” because he can’t go out and do everything he wants.
The 75-year-old monarch traveled from London to Windsor Castle on Thursday to have a candid conversation with his ‘darling’ daughter-in-law Kate.
‘But he is very pragmatic, he understands that there is a period of time when he really needs to focus on himself. But at the same time he’s always pushing his staff and everyone (his doctors and nurses) to say, “Can I do this? Can I do that?”
“I think the overriding message is that he’s obviously looking forward to getting back to some form of normality and is probably frustrated that his recovery is taking a little longer than he would like.”
He added that the Princess of Wales is “remarkable” amid news of her health battle, and said she and William “did well” balancing their public life and family life.
Queen Camilla had earlier told supporters that King Charles is “doing very well” as the cancer-bashing monarch met foreign representatives at Buckingham Palace.
She told the Northern Ireland public that the King, who has been receiving treatment for cancer, was “disappointed” not to be able to join her there.

King Charles was “very emotional” after having a private lunch with Kate Middleton the day before she bravely revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world.
Sitting on a bench in Windsor, surrounded by spring flowers, the Princess of Wales has taken the extraordinary step of revealing to the world that she has cancer.

Yesterday it emerged that King Charles was “very emotional” after having a private lunch with the Princess of Wales the day before she bravely revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world.

Princess Kate, 42, is believed to have wanted to confide in Charles about how she was coping with her own fight against the disease, The Sun reported.
The Princess of Wales also spoke about her emotional video in which she sat on a park bench and told the nation of her “big surprise” at discovering she had cancer.
The intimate lunch between the couple further cements the strong bond Kate and Charles share with the King, who lovingly describes the Princess as his “beloved daughter-in-law.”
Months earlier, Charles had put on his robe and “walked” to comfort Princess Kate while they both recovered from surgery at the London Clinic.
A source said Charles and Catherine would have had much to discuss over lunch at Windsor Castle with the King just weeks before starting his treatment.
“The King left his lunch very excited,” they said.
“They are very close and he considers Catherine his daughter.
“There is no doubt that there is much that you can share and can support each other during your deeply personal battles with cancer.”
Meanwhile, inside sources told the Sunday Times that King Charles, who was being treated for an enlarged prostate, was seen “walking” from his hospital bed, to see Kate in the hallway.
At the time, the princess had undergone major abdominal surgery, which was not thought to be for a malignant disease, but post-operative tests found signs of cancer.
The thought of the cheerful King comforting his daughter-in-law as they both face major health issues will warm the hearts of millions across the country.
Kate and Charles have taken solace in each other as they both battle cancer at the same time, a well-placed source told The Telegraph.
“You can both empathize with what the other is going through, which helps in a difficult time like this,” they said.
