Opposition Leader Peter Dutton will announce a new $20,000 tax break for small businesses as campaigning for this year’s federal election heats up.
Under the proposal, small businesses with a turnover of less than $10 million will be able to claim up to $20,000 a year for meals and entertainment provided to customers, suppliers and employees.
Dutton said the new measure would ease financial pressures on small businesses while boosting economic activity at the grassroots level.
“We want other small businesses to spend more in their local cafes, clubs and pubs,” he told courier mail.
‘And if they can take their employees to venues and pay for a meal as part of a major sales event, or recognition for their hard work, then it will be a win for both companies.
“It will help retention and provide a reward for employees.”
Although there has been no announcement regarding the date of this year’s federal election, both Dutton and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese have been touring the country as part of an unofficial campaign.
Dutton will hold a rally in Brisbane on Sunday as the Coalition seeks to challenge Labor and the Greens on the streets of the city centre.
