Collingwood legend Peter Daicos achieved a lot in his decorated football career, but he has revealed how the AFL almost denied him a touching moment on the field with his daughter, which he still cherishes.

“As an individual, after I retired I had the opportunity to run a lap with my daughter at the MCG,” Daicos said in the jungle during the filming of I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here!

‘I asked if I could do it and the AFL said no.

‘I told my wife (Colleen), fuck it, give her to me. And when she was halfway there, she handed me Maddie.

‘There’s a shot of me running with Maddie… and she looks like Superman with 35 on his back.

“Then it became common for players to start taking their kids everywhere as part of their retirement.”

Daicos added that he feels lucky to have been able to live his sporting dream with the Magpies and also felt that his “life was fulfilled by being a father.”

Nicknamed the ‘Macedonian Wonder’, the wily striker was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1999 and was also Collingwood’s best and fairest player twice – in 1982 and 1988.

Daicos had two more sons that Magpies fans adore equally: brothers Nick and Josh.

The brothers won the AFL premiership last season, just as their father did in 1990, to also cement themselves as club legends at Collingwood.

Josh, 25, began playing senior football in 2017, and Nick, 21, followed suit in 2022.
