After the game Crouch said: ‘The problem is their second heat. They cannot compete. If they go to Burnley on the weekend, they have nowhere to knock.

“They had to bring people like Son to bring any kind of urgency to the team and yet they lost the game.”

Hoddle agreed with his fellow pundit and criticized Davinson Sanchez for his defensive work.

He said: ‘If this was a 16-year-old defender you might do it twice, but he did the exact same thing. He let the player in, we talked about that at halftime.’

Crouch added: “I said ‘come into him’ ’cause he did it in the first half, he’s going to sleep. He tries to guide him down the line, he turned the wrong way again, it’s terrible defending.’

Hoddle, 64, when he blamed Sanchez for Mura’s second goal – he claimed the defender allowed the attacker to cut him again.

He said: “When it’s a 15-year-old you say ‘you can’t do that again’, but he’s done it again and forgot what happened in the first half.

“I just can’t understand why he let him in. He didn’t read the situation at a crucial point in the game.”

Hoddle labeled Tottenham’s overall performance as ‘outrageous’ and expressed disappointment for the Spurs fans who had traveled to the game.

He told BT Sport: ‘200+ fans have gone out to support them. It’s amazing that they’ve tried their best to support their team, but to get that achievement is a real shame.”

Due to Thursday-evening’s deficit, Antiono Conte’s team dropped to third place in the group.

Tottenham can still qualify for the next round of the Europa League, but they have made it difficult for themselves.

The North London club must book a result against Rennes on December 9 on the last day of Group G.
