Pete Davidson says he’s ‘ready to hang the jersey’ on Saturday Night Live amid rumors he’s leaving the show after seven seasons

After a farewell speech that sparked speculation that he might be leaving Saturday Night Live for good last weekend, Pete Davidson says he’s “ ready to hang the jersey ” after seven seasons on the show.

Multiple SNL cast members were at the center of the departure rumors, and Pete didn’t miss the topic when asked about his career during a roundtable meeting with The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Yeah, I’m fine,’ said Pete, 27, when asked if he could possibly stay on the show for as long as Kenan Thompson, who has played on SNL for 18 seasons. ‘I’m surprised I made it to seven. I am ready to hang up the sweater. Kenan is like f ** kin ‘Karl Malone out there.’

Pete’s future on the show came under scrutiny last weekend when he appeared on the Weekend Update with a message that looked somewhat like a farewell address.

“I am very grateful to be here, and it has been an honor to grow up in front of you,” he told the audience.

This isn’t the first time Pete has spoken of leaving the show.

“ I personally think I should be done with that show because they make fun of me, ” he said in an interview about Live Your Truth: An Honest Talk with Charlamagne Tha God last year.

‘I have the feeling, yes, I did as much as possible there,’ he also said.

Pete said he had already spoken to people, including SNL vet Adam Sandler, about possible distancing.

“You never want to pull the trigger too soon,” said Pete. ‘Everyone’s always like,’ You’ll know if you know, and you’ll be fine. ”

It’s not just Pete who is supposed to be leaving SNL, with Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant and Kenan Thompson also sparking speculation that they were heading for the show’s season finale last weekend.

With many of these cast members committing to other projects outside of SNL, a departure only makes sense.

Kenan returns for season two of his eponymous sitcom while Cecily returns to the upcoming Apple TV + series Schmigadoon! in Vancouver, according to Esquire.

Kate, who has been on the show for nine years, dodged a question about returning next season during a recent interview with Variety.

“Um, god, it’s April. It’s early, and I really enjoy working there, and I really like everyone who works there, so we’ll see, ‘she told the publication.

Are they next? It's not just Pete who's supposed to be leaving SNL, with Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant and Kenan Thompson also fueling speculation that they'll be underway during the show's season finale last weekend.
