PETA has taken aim at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for visiting Sydney Zoo, as the animal rights nonprofit released a statement saying the couple should “spend their time and money at a real sanctuary.”
The pop star and her NFL boyfriend went on a date night at the 16.5-hectare site earlier this week ahead of Swift’s three concerts in Australia’s biggest city, and were even seen petting a small kangaroo .
But Debbie Metzler, director of Captive Animal Welfare at the PETA Foundation, was less than impressed with the latest sighting of the ‘You Belong with Me’ and ’22’ hitmaker.
In a shared statement, he said: “While we very well understand the appeal of seeing Australia’s wildlife, PETA hopes that the next time Taylor and Travis want to see wild animals, they will spend their time and money at a true sanctuary.”
The charity adds that a sanctuary is a better option because visitors are at a respectful distance from the animals and the fact that they cannot feed or touch them there.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce went on a date night at Sydney Zoo this week ahead of their four shows in Australia’s capital.
The A-list couple spotted animals as they toured the 16.5-hectare site.
But Swift has already violated PETA’s advisory by feeding a baby kangaroo while watching other animals behind cages.
Kelce jetted off to reunite with his world-famous girlfriend after she flew back to the US to watch her boyfriend and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates win their third Super Bowl in five years.
Before this year’s big game, he had been in Tokyo to perform and kick off the international leg of his Eras Tour.
Swift violated PETA’s notice not to pet or feed animals at the zoo by petting a baby kangaroo.
The pop star and her Kansas City Chiefs boyfriend held hands during their last public appearance.
After Sydney, Swift will head to Singapore for three concerts on March 2, 3 and 4.
Then he will travel to Europe, where his first destination on the Old Continent will be Paris.
The 34-year-old artist and winner of 12 Grammy Awards will be in the UK for most of June, starting in Edinburgh (06/07, 06/08).
He will be in London for two concerts on June 21 and 22.
