Jay Leno was seen picking up food in Beverly Hills, California, on Tuesday after he was officially granted guardianship of his dementia-stricken wife, Mavis.

The former late night talk show host was spotted behind the wheel, dressed in his classic light blue denim shirt for the outing in Los Angeles.

Dressed in dark blue jeans and black shoes, he was photographed getting out of his red Fiat 500 to eat at a local restaurant.

Earlier Tuesday in court, a judge determined that Leno, 73, was fit to serve as his wife’s guardian amid her battle with dementia.

In January, Leno had filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court to be appointed his guardian because his condition prevents him from managing his own affairs.

People reported that during a hearing today in Los Angeles Superior Court, Mavis’ attorney said he agreed to the conservatorship.

The judge turned to Leno, 73, and told him: ‘Everything you are doing is right. “I fully understand that this is a difficult period,” before confirming that he was suitable to be his guardian,” the outlet reported.

Leno also told the court that he was in the estate planning process and inspecting his wife’s will.

In a document filed last week supporting Leno’s petition, his attorney Ronald Ostrin said his declining mental capacity had brought sadness to their otherwise “perfect” 43-year marriage.

“According to (Mavis’) neurologist, Dr. Hart Cohen, she has advanced dementia, sometimes not knowing her husband Jay or his birth date,” Ostrin said.

“She is very disoriented, she reflects on her parents, who have already died, and on her mother, who died about 20 years ago.”

Dr. Cohen told Ostrin that Leno, 73, ‘loves his wife very much and wanted to raise this matter out of respect for her.

Ostrin said he reviewed all of Dr. Cohen’s medical records before speaking privately with Mavis herself.

“We had a long opportunity to talk to each other and we talked about his wishes and desires about the procedure (the guardianship) and about his testamentary wishes,” he writes.

‘EM. Leno was a lovely person and although it was clear that he had a cognitive decline, he still had a lovely personality and could communicate.’

Dr Cohen added: ‘She expressed her desire to vote and told me a little about her philanthropic work.

The couple was spotted attending his comedy show in West Hollywood last week, and were photographed holding their heads as they left The Improv.

Dressed in casual clothes, the couple appeared to be in high spirits before driving away in Jay’s red sports car.

In a brief exclusive interview with DailyMail.com in January, just after filing for conservatorship, Leno said of Mavis: “She’s fine, everyone’s fine, we’re doing well.” I just wrote a will in case something happens.

In their court filing, Leno’s attorneys said Mavis “lacks the necessary capacity to execute the estate plan” due to her “severe neurocognitive disorders (including dementia).”

The legal documents added: “Jay is fully capable of continuing to support Mavis’ physical and financial needs as he has done throughout their marriage.

“Jay wishes to execute an estate plan, including a revocable trust and will, that will cover Mavis and Mavis’ brother and his only living heir other than Jay.”
