A father has faced a court accused of murdering his three daughters, his wife and his mother-in-law in a house in Perth, days before making himself known to the police.

The bodies of Mara Lee Harvey, 41, her three-year-old daughter Charlotte, two-year-old twins Alice and Beatrix, and her grandmother Beverley Ann Quinn, 73, were found in a house in Bedford, in the northeast of Perth, on Sunday.

Anthony Robert Harvey, 24, appeared in the Magistrates Court in Perth on Monday through a video of the Karratha court charged with killing his wife and children on September 3, six days before their bodies were discovered.

He allegedly killed Ms. Quinn on the morning of September 4 when she arrived at the house.

Apparently, the women were attacked in the kitchen, while the children were killed in other rooms.

Police also claim that Harvey was left with the bodies in the house for "a few days" before traveling north.

Mara Harvey, 47, was among the five bodies found dead at the Bedford house in Perth.

A bearded Harvey, wearing jeans and a T-shirt, seemed calm while sitting on the bench and told Justice Joe Randazzo that he understood the charges.

Attorney Max Crispe represented Harvey by telephone but did not submit an application.

Harvey was not required to submit an order and was remanded to appear in the Magistrates Court of Stirling Gardens later this month.

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said 23 people died in circumstances related to domestic violence this year.

"It is impossible for me not to take stock that in the last four months, 15 people have lost their lives in three separate family tragedies," Dawson told reporters.

"It's an absolute tragedy."

Dawson described a statement issued by Mara's sister, Taryn, on behalf of the family as heartbreaking.

"There are no words to explain the emptiness and loss we feel," he wrote.

She said that Beverley would have done anything for her daughters and grandchildren.

Mara was also a great mother.

"I was very proud of each of them and was doing a great job raising them," Taryn wrote.

"His girls were his world."

The WA police will allege that Beverley Quinn was murdered the day after her daughter and three grandchildren were killed.

Charlotte was described as an energetic and self-confident girl who loved to socialize, while Alice was bold and shameless, and Beatrix, calmer, gave her "the biggest hugs".

"This world is a sadder place with the loss of these five beautiful people, but Heaven has won five new angels."

While the police forensic team inspected the property for evidence, carrying it in brown paper bags, the villagers of Bedford expressed their shock and disbelief.

A bouquet of red roses with a card that says "Rest in peace, neighbors" has been placed near the house.
