There were massive flight cancellations and delays at a major Australian airport on Saturday, with travelers stranded for hours by a fuel supply problem.

Nine international flights and five domestic flights have been canceled at Perth Airport and more are expected to be cancelled, and airlines have been told that incoming flights will not be able to refuel when they arrive there.

A Perth Airport spokesperson said the planes are unable to refuel due to a problem with charge pressure in the fuel lines.

“Perth Airport is experiencing a significant issue with its fuel supply system, which is having a significant impact on flight operations,” the spokesperson said.

Disgruntled passenger Natalie Forrest said she had “been stuck at Perth Airport since midnight waiting to fly – it seems ridiculous that they don’t have a back-up plan for fuel problems”.

They added that “more cancellations are expected and incoming flights that have not yet departed their departure points will also be affected.”
