Pep Guardiola says he will try to keep his half-time team talks shorter after Manchester City were fined £2m by the Premier League for starting games late.
City have been fined 22 separate offences over the past two seasons.
That included a delay of almost three minutes in the restart of the second half of their final game of the campaign against West Ham, when they were crowned champions at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola was asked about the fine before facing Chelsea in a friendly in Columbus, Ohio. “I just read about it in the news. I would try to keep my half-time speeches shorter,” he said.
As for his former assistant Enzo Maresca, who is now in charge at Chelsea, Guardiola said: “I’m very happy for him. We had a special year together. But more so than when he was in the second team, he’s an incredible and lovely person. And his family, too.

‘He did a really good, incredible job at Leicester, got promoted to the Premier League and is now in one of the top five or six teams in England.
“And I wish him the best because he deserves it. Good people deserve the best.
‘Being a manager means believing in something deeply, very, very deeply. And whatever the results, I stick to my idea.
“And that’s why he believes in what he does. And he will be successful. I don’t know for how long, but he will be successful.”
On Erling Haaland’s physical condition, he said: “He told me that he woke up today and feels much better. And I hope he can play a few minutes tomorrow.”
