First dates are always a little awkward, but people share stories of their bizarre encounters that prove they can be a lot worse than that.
reddit user u/Allygreen4255 recently asked respondents to be open about “the craziest thing to happen on or after a first date” – and they didn’t hold back, with one person revealing her date and refusing to take her home.
Lab partner who was in love with me wanted to take me on a date. I was quite open minded about it, so I said yes. I thought he was a pretty cool guy until he tried to kidnap me at the end of our date,” she wrote, shocking other users.
Cringe-worthy moments: Reddit users shared their craziest first-date stories in a popular new thread
Yikes: One woman’s date made an astrological chart to check their compatibility, while another dealt with a man who told his mother they would have sex
The person explained that they had a nice meal, but that she “didn’t really feel a romantic chemistry.”
“After we finished, I told him I had to go home, and he started joking that it was too early to take me back,” she recalls. “Well, look, when we got into his car, he started driving in the opposite direction from my drop-off point.”
When she asked if he was lost, he claimed he “knew exactly where he was going,” but he drove further and further away from her house. She tried to tell him she had homework to do, but he waved her off.
“After driving aimlessly for fifteen minutes, he returns to the restaurant and pulls into the parking lot. I was quite confused and uncomfortable at this point, so I just rolled on instead of asking more questions,” she explained.
“We sat there and talked for probably an hour about anything he wanted to talk about before FINALLY dropped me off. If I tell this story again, I think I’ll have to choose to drive myself on future first dates.”
Another woman shared how she dated a man who was a little too open about his personal life when they first met.
“In the first 30 minutes, the guy told me he couldn’t reach a climax because of his depression medication and asked if I could see if he was wearing foundation makeup,” she wrote. “Then after dinner he declared with a soft fist on the table that I was ‘the girl for him’.”
What do you say? A woman said her date refused to take her home at the end of the night and let her talk to him in a parking lot for an hour before he finally dropped her off
And another had to deal with a man who not only assumed they were going to have sex, but also told his mother.
“On the first date, the man’s phone rang and he answered during dinner. He said, “Hi Mom, I can’t talk right now because I’m on a date and I’m pretty sure I’ll have sex later.” Then he winked at me. I’m gone,” the Redditor said.
Others described dates who were almost obsessive after their first meeting, which was undoubtedly a turn-off for them.
‘After a date, I got 37 messages in twenty minutes. That was a degree of need that I couldn’t handle,” one person said.
Someone else detailed how her date literally looked up to the stars to see if they were meant to be.
After the first date, the guy found some data points on me, somehow made an astrological chart of me and his, and had an analysis of how ‘compatible’ ‘we’ would be, sent the horoscope reports to a mailbox I had (he tracked that down too), then called me to see if I was tempted by this whole exercise,” she recalls. “That was the last date too.”
Another person admitted to being the reason a date went wrong, writing, “I… tripped over something and fell. And then cut my face and had to be driven by him to go to the doctor to get it checked.’
One of the strangest stories, however, came from an Australian who found bones on a first date – and thought they were human remains.
What are the odds? One of the strangest stories came from an Australian who found bones on a first date and thought they were human remains. It turned out to be kangaroo bones
“It was the height of the lockdown here in Australia and all the cafes were closed, so we decided to meet up and go for a walk in the woods,” the person recalls. “We met at a nearby shopping center and I drove us to a local national park.
“As I got out of the car, I saw a single key hanging from the branch of a tree. I joked, “This is like the opening scene of a Steven King novel.” We both chuckled and ventured a few yards into the undergrowth.
“There were indications all over the floor that someone had been living there for at least a few weeks, but hadn’t been there for a while.”
The Reddit user said they walked a little further and bumped into bones that looked like a human femur.
“It definitely turned out that we had discovered human remains. We called the police and waited about an hour for an officer to come. He recorded our details and agreed to our review. He called the forensics department and told us to go home as they would probably stay there all night and they would contact us if needed.’
They were in shock and drove around trying to process what had just happened to them.
“We went to Hungry Jack’s (Burger King) and ate in the car in silence. End of date,” the person explained. “The next morning we found out they were kangaroo bones. Apparently they can look remarkably like human bones.
‘We never had any more contact with each other. Oh, and it was his birthday.’
