Several people are feared dead after an SUV plowed into crowds celebrating New Year’s Eve on a popular party street in New Orleans, according to reports.

The accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. local time at the intersection of Bourbon Street, famous for its many bars and clubs, and Iberville. WGNO reported.

New Orleans police did not specify the number of deaths. Injuries are also not yet known.

Bourbon Street was closed and paramedics were called to the scene.

Jim Mowrer, a U.S. Army vet who claims he was on Bourbon Street with his wife at the time of the incident, said on X that he saw an SUV “speeding” down the road and “running people over.”
