The Pentagon has released footage of the attack that led to the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Marine Corps General Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr., commander of the American Central Command, published the images during a press conference on Wednesday at the Pentagon.
McKenzie was the operational commander of the Delta Force raid, which took place in northwestern Syria on Saturday, and resulted in the death of Baghdadi after the terror leader had detonated a suicide jacket to prevent imprisonment.
The general clarified that Baghdadi killed two of his own young children in the explosion, not three as the assault force initially believed. McKenzie said both children were younger than 12 years old.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi died in the raid of the Delta Force on Saturday after he had withdrawn into a tunnel and had a suicide jacket exploded. New footage shows the American attack on his compound
& # 39; Baghdadi has been the subject of an intense effort between authorities to bring him to justice, and that effort has increased considerably lately as we approached his whereabouts, & # 39; McKenzie said.
& # 39; When it became clear that we had obtained volatile and useful information about his hiding place, we developed an implementation level plan designed to capture or kill him and began preparing a special operation team for the mission, & # 39; he went on.
The video shows the attack troops who come to the ground under attack from fighters when they approached the compound.
McKenzie said the ground fighters were not supposed to be ISIS hunters, but nevertheless posed a threat to the attack team, which responded with overwhelming firepower from the attack helicopters.
The video shows the ground warriors spreading as the returning fire illuminates the ground around them.
& # 39; When American troops were conquering, Baghdadi exploded a bomb that killed himself and two young children, & # 39; said the general.
