Penrith star Jaiman Salmon takes offense at Ricky Stewart calling him a “damaged weak dog” last year, by uttering the same three words to the camera after scoring during his team’s defeat of the Raiders…as fans applaud his epic splash!
- Jaeman Salmon has been rated a “weak destruction dog” by Raiders coach Ricky Stuart
- The comment came in August last year and sparked a huge controversy
- Salmon continued the bad blood when he hit back at Stewart in Friday night’s clash
NRL superstar Jaeman Salmon reacted sensationally to Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart as he celebrated after scoring in the Penrith Panthers’ 53-12 win over the Raiders.
The pair were embroiled in controversy last year when Stewart called Salmon a “destructive dog” after the Panthers won a game between the two teams in August.
Stewart had attacked Salmon after kicking hooker Tom Starling during the match and was eventually given an unprecedented one-match ban and a $25,000 (£13,500) fine for the comments. Stewart then apologized for the forum he made them into.
At the time, the Raiders coach claimed to have a history with Salmon, with suggestions that it traced back to a family matter from the younger days in Cronulla.
Following the incident, there was also a suggestion Stewart slammed after Salmon reportedly made derogatory comments directed at the Raiders coach’s autistic daughter – something the 24-year-old has vehemently denied.

Stewart last year described Salmon as a ‘neglected dog’ after a clash between Penrith and Canberra
And now, during a showdown between the two teams on Friday night, Salmon appeared to be getting his steam back in Stewart.
When he put the ball down to score a try in the 79th minute during the strike, Salmon hurled a “weak destruction dog” to the cameras in seemingly digs at Stewart for his comments last year.
Fans were loving his leads on the coach with one saying, “Fair Play can’t say Stewart didn’t deserve that splash.”
Another added, “This celebration can’t be beat,” while another user said, “This is so cool.”
A fourth proponent simply said: “Very good!”
Back in the summer, Salmon explained how he was totally caught off guard by this whole affair.
“It was a shock,” he told AFP. “I had never heard that before. But I’m not worried about it now.”
I heard about it (accusations of making derogatory comments about Salmon’s autistic daughter) in the game. What Rick said is up to him.

Salmon had explained how surprised he was when he got involved in the controversy

Stewart was given an unprecedented one-match ban and a $25,000 (£13,500) fine for his comments.

Salmon’s controversial celebration was praised by fans on social media after the game
He has nothing to do with his autistic daughter. I will not comment on what happened.
In the aftermath of Stewart’s tirade, Salmon revealed that he was considering legal action and thanked Penrith for standing by him.
The club has always been supportive of me, and any player in such positions. I cannot thank the club enough.”
Penrith won the Grand Final last year – their fourth title in history – and currently sit third in the NRL table this season after four matches.
