Penny Mordaunt’s Popularity Soars After Her Role in Coronation with a Sword

Date:

Mrs Mordaunt was the first woman in history to fill the role at a coronation as a member of the Privy Council, a body of advisers to the sovereign, including senior politicians and ceremonial officials.

The former Tory hopeful leader, 50, revealed she trained to carry the sword by doing pushups.

The poll also found that six ministers now have a negative rating among members, up from just one last month.

They are Michael Gove with -3.7, Grant Shapps with -5.8, Andrew Mitchell with -7.3, Jeremy Hunt with -7.4, Robert Jenrick with -9.5 and Thérèse Coffey with -10.4.

ConservativeHome said: “That is a record – and a sign that the panel is thoroughly fed up with the government as a whole. The scores of almost everyone else have fallen, and those of the exceptions have risen only marginally.”

The most popular cabinet minister remains Ben Wallace, the secretary of defense. Meanwhile, James Cleverly, the Secretary of State, ranks third behind Mrs Mordaunt.

Mr. Sunak’s popularity has dropped from 47.4 to 21.6 in just one month.
