Pennsylvania authorities have stepped up their search for a Brazilian fugitive by sounding his mother’s voice from police loudspeakers and by helicopter.
Danelo Cavalcante escaped from a Chester County maximum security prison on Thursday morning.
The 34-year-old man was sentenced two weeks ago to life for the murder, in April 2021, of his ex-girlfriend Débora Brandao, 34, a mother of two.
State police, who have taken over the investigation, have deployed patrol cars and helicopters that relay a recorded message from Cavalcante’s mother.

The message, in Portuguese, asks him to surrender to the police without threat of violence.
Pennsylvania State Police Assistant Commissioner George Bivens said Monday that if Cavalcante “does not actively surrender, deadly force is authorized.”
Authorities received reports of four credible sightings, but were unable to locate the convicted killer.
A residential surveillance camera showed Cavalcante walking through a wooded area around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
At the time, he was wearing slacks, a light-colored t-shirt and white sneakers, police said.

Authorities have yet to say how Cavalcante escaped from the prison, where he was being held pending transfer to a state prison.
Cavalcante is also wanted for a murder that occurred in 2021 in Brazil. Prosecutors say he stabbed Brandao in front of his two children to prevent her from reporting him to US authorities.
He was apprehended in Virginia after killing Brandao. Authorities believe he was trying to flee to Mexico in order to return to Brazil.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said last week that Cavalcante may be considering traveling south again.
