Peacock gets the new Downton Abbey movie next week and a 24/7 channel
peacock brings Downton Abbey: A New Era on its streaming service on June 24. The film, which was released on May 20, will be streamed exclusively on the platform after it leaves theaters.
New Age is the sequel to the 2019 Downton Abbey movie (which Peacock also currently owns the streaming rights) and the original series. It centers on the Crawleys and the staff as part of the family travels to a villa in France, while the others greet a film crew who arrive at the estate. If you are a fan of Singing in the rainyou will probably have a good time.
To celebrate the film’s arrival (and to help fans catch up before the film arrives), Peacock has also added a 24/7 channel that only airs seasons 1 through 6 nonstop. While you may not want to miss a second and watch on-demand, this way is useful if you just want to have something in the background or watch with friends far away. It’s also helpful if you have selection fatigue and know you want to watch a show, but don’t want to pick a specific episode. This isn’t the first show to get the 24/7 treatment either. The office also has a 24/7 channel.
And as with The officeyou can also watch the show on demand as the service launched with Downton Abbey in 2020. Amazon Prime also owns the rights to stream the series now, but much to the disappointment of many fans, Downton Abbey left Netflix last month after only one year of service.
Last year, NBC-owned Peacock announced it would start streaming NBCUniversal movies 45 days after they hit theaters in 2022. Downton Abbey: A New Era is included along with the 355 (which has already made its way to the platform) and the coming Halloween ends† Some of Universal’s big names are not part of this package, with Jurassic World: Dominion expect to arrive at Peacock in October rather than right after its theater debut.
Disclosure: Comcast, owner of NBCUniversal, is also an investor in Vox Media, The edgethe parent company.
