Peachey took $100,000 pay cut to return home for shot at title with mates

Peachey was in and out of the top grade during his one season with the Tigers, despite being in the leadership pack.

“I didn’t play the football that I knew I could play,” he said. “I wasn’t in the mindset that I should have been.”

Peachey couldn’t believe it when Penrith manager Ivan Cleary contacted him about a possible return home. Peachey lives a few blocks from the Panthers Academy, and he and Cleary are good friends. The coach attended Peachey’s wedding and their respective wives were good friends.

“I wanted to give him one last chance here, finish strong and help this team win a third premiership,” Peachey said.

“Iván has always been honest with me. He told me that he hadn’t played well in recent years, that it would be difficult and, ‘I hope you’re ready.'”

Peachey has already lost six kilograms since weighing in at 97kg on the first day of preseason training.

“The last time I weighed 91kg was when I was here (in Penrith),” Peachey said. “I have never reached triple digits. Here they train hard. I’m trying to get a little lower.”

Peachey can play centers, slot into the halves, fill the back row vacancy created by the departure of Viliame Kikau, or prove a useful option as a fictional half, especially with Mitch Kenny about to start his first full year as Not holder. .9 after the departure of Api Koroisau.

Penrith loves the fact that he’s an old-fashioned footballer who can hold his own in the starting line-up. Now 31, Peachey didn’t need to be reminded that he is easily the oldest player at the club. He can still remember Nathan Cleary and Isaah Yeo making their first grade debuts before joining the game’s elite ranks.
