Paul Scholes says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves a new deal at Man United for creating an ‘exciting’ team, but the Old Trafford legend warns he must deliver silverware quickly as he criticizes the lack of team depth.

Paul Scholes believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves a new contract with Manchester United, but warned the manager he should hand over a trophy soon.
The Norwegian is reportedly getting a new three-year deal at Old Trafford, with his current deal expiring in June 2022.
United have made some progress under Solskjaer and are on track for a top four finish in the Premier League and could still win the Europa League this season.

But if they don’t, it means a fourth straight season with no silverware for United.
And Solskjaer’s former teammate Scholes has made it clear that this is ultimately what every manager at the club will be judged on.
‘I think he probably deserves it. Progress has been made before with the manager [Jose Mourinho], ‘said the United legend on the Webby & O’Neill YouTube show
‘I think the team looks a lot more exciting, there are goals in the team that you would expect from a United team anyway.
‘I think the only problem is winning something. Losing four semifinals is a bit of a concern and losing that quarter finals to Leicester [in the FA Cup], it was especially not good for fans.

The FA Cup exit came as a heavy blow to Solskjaer and United as they hunted for some silverware
However, Paul Pogba’s winner brought United past Milan to the last eight of the Europa League
The Europa League was tough in Milan, I thought players looked a bit jaded – [Bruno] Fernandes in particular needed the rest against Leicester.
But then again, I don’t think United is in a position to rest people for the big games.
“They have 12, 13 players who are good enough to win a lot of games. But is the squad deep enough if you let these big players out to win the bigger games?
‘I would like to win the FA Cup from the FA Cup and the Europa League. The Europa League is not where United wants to be or should be.

‘But they are in it and they have a good chance of winning it if the teams stay in it. I think there is progress, but I think Ole should try to win something. ‘
United crashed out of the FA Cup with a 3-1 defeat to Leicester just before the international break, with Solskjaer being criticized for leaving Fernandes talisman out of the starting line-up.
They are second in the Premier League list and should qualify for next season’s Champions League and are linked with Spanish club Granada in the last eight of the Europa League.
The first leg in Spain will take place on Thursday after United host Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
