Paul Pogba joins Lionel Messi, Jadon Sancho and Shanice van de Sanden to star in Pepsi’s brand new ‘Fizz to Life’ Champions League ad (but fans are asking why Manchester United star is up front while his squad doesn’t even qualified for the competition.!)
- This year’s Pepsi Champions League ad has raised some eyebrows
- Paul Pogba is back, but Manchester United is no longer in the competition
- He joins Lionel Messi, as well as Jadon Sancho and Shanice van de Sanden
Paul Pogba joins Lionel Messi and Jadon Sancho as the frontman of Pepsi’s new Champions League ad, despite the French and Manchester United failing to reach the knockout stages of this season’s league.
Pepsi’s new ad, which also features Wolfsburg striker Shanice van de Sanden, is intended as a ‘celebration’ of the brand’s partnership with UEFA’s most prestigious club competition.
But those with eagle eyes on Twitter were quick to question why Pogba was featured in the ad, given his and United’s lack of involvement in the last 16.

Lionel Messi is back and will show off his skills in a brand new Pepsi commercial
United had to settle for a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League after failing to qualify from Group H.
One user responded on social media: “What is Pogba doing in a UCL ad?”
“What is Pogba looking for in the Champions League?” added one more.
Manchester United are already out of this year’s Champions League, and Pogba’s opponent Messi may not have much time left either.
Barcelona are down 4-1 after their first leg against PSG and have everything to do when they travel to Paris on March 10.
In the meantime, Borussia Dortmund of Sancho is 3-2 against Sevilla after their first leg.
Van de Sanden has arguably the best form of all the players involved, with Wolfsburg second in the Women’s Bundesliga after winning their last five games.
The ad also features Jadon Sancho and women’s football player Shanice van de Sanden
In addition to footballers, the ad also features the sounds and lyrics of Becky G and Burna Boy, who are collaborating on a song called ‘Rotate’ for the first time.
As usual with Pepsi ads, the pros show their ball skills to the beat, jumping in and out of posters and magazines in a dorm room.
Campaigns will also be added across social media and the real world, including a football challenge with TikTok Duet and an augmented reality experience using a limited edition QR code on the packaging.

Sancho said, ‘I loved filming with the Pepsi MAX squad this year! I can’t wait for you guys to see what happens when you combine football skills with crazy new beats. It certainly will not disappoint. ‘
Pepsi has had football-themed ads for years, with some memorable ads, including those from David Beckham, Roberto Carlos, and Francesco Totti.
In last year’s video, Messi and Pogba were joined by Mohamed Salah and Raheem Sterling as the players enjoyed themselves at clubs and hairdressers.
