Patti Newton arrives at Melbourne hospital where husband Bert, 82, is recovering after leg amputation… amid lockdown restrictions banning almost all hospital visits

Her husband Bert Newtown, 82, is recovering at Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital after a life-saving operation that saw his leg amputated last month.

And on Saturday, the wife of TV icon Patti, 76, was seen arriving outside the hospital and riding her scooter to the front door of the facility – amid Victoria’s strict Covid lockdown rules that prevented nearly all hospital visits.

A representative from Epworth Hospital told Daily Mail Australia that the facility had almost exclusively stopped admitting visitors.

It comes after Patti shared Bert’s first photo since his leg was amputated last week.

In the photo, Bert put on a brave face as he laughed next to his granddaughter Lola, who had come to visit him.

The Gold Logie winner was pictured sitting on a chair next to his hospital bed, with his amputated right leg covered in a blanket.

“Just wanted to show you that Bert is fine, still flirting with the nurses and laughing,” Patti wrote in the caption.

“Spending time with his sweet Lola. And one day at a time. A long journey but he is blessed with so much love ❤️.’

Bert’s toe became infected before Christmas and he was in excruciating pain before doctors amputated his right leg just below the knee on Saturday, May 8, during life-saving surgery.
