Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins didn’t have much time to learn the Chiefs’ offense before Sunday’s game against the Raiders, but it also didn’t take him much time to show the kind of impact he can have on the field.
Hopkins gained 13 yards to convert a third down on the game’s first drive, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes called his new teammate’s play “high-level stuff” when he spoke to reporters after the game.
“For him down there, in that situation, for him to run and be in the right position, it shows that it’s will fit perfectly in this offense,” Mahomes said, via Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star.
Hopkins finished the day with two receptions for 29 yards, which would normally be considered modest numbers for a receiver of his caliber. However, it was his first game for a new team and that puts the focus on what it could mean for him, the Chiefs and the future.
