Patrick Mahomes revealed on Christmas Day that his wife Brittany is about to give birth to the couple’s third child.
Mahomes and the Chiefs defeated the Steelers 29-10 on Wednesday to officially seal the No. 1 seed in the AFC, home field advantage and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
And the quarterback revealed in a postgame interview on Netflix that the time off could come in handy for his family.
“I told my wife I was going to give her the No. 1 seed so we could have that baby,” he said.
With the Chiefs’ Week 18 clash at the Broncos a dead end for the two-time defending champions, it’s possible Mahomes could be rested, meaning he wouldn’t play again for the divisional round until Jan. 18 or 19.
Patrick and Brittany, who already share daughter Sterling, 3, and son Bronze, 2, said in July they were expecting their third child.

And the family of four shared some holiday snaps on Christmas Eve before Patrick traveled to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Mahomes had one of his best games of the season in a comfortable win, as he completed 76.3 percent of his passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns.
And teammate Travis Kelce also had a memorable day, as he set the all-time record for Chiefs touchdown receptions.
Kelce surpassed fellow tight end Tony Gonzalez’s record, with his 77th career score helping the Chiefs move to a 15-1 record.
The Chiefs star also surpassed 1,000 catches as he finished the day with eight catches for 84 yards and one touchdown.
