Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found receiver Mecole Hardman for a touchdown to win the Super Bowl. Mahomes says his target didn’t even know he had won it all when it happened.
After KC’s third title in five years, Mahomes was in a joking mood when he returned to NFL Network to chime in while Hardman spoke on TV.
‘Can I tell a quick, funny story, please? “I threw a touchdown to this guy at the end of the game, and he looked at me and had no idea,” Mahomes revealed.
“I told him, ‘Dude, we just won the Super Bowl.’ And he said he passed out. I had no idea. I was like, bro…
‘Because he didn’t even celebrate at the beginning. I say, what are we doing?
Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman (12) apparently didn’t know he had won the Super Bowl.
Hardman says he ‘blacked out’ after catching Patrick Mahomes’ title-winning pass
Mahomes ran to celebrate with Hardman, whom he praised while speaking to the press.
Hardman added: “When I see you running towards me, I think okay, yeah, it’s time to celebrate.”
It’s been a wild season for Hardman, who took a chance and signed in the offseason with the New York Jets.
But after receiving little attention from Gang Green, Hardman was traded back to Kansas City. His targets didn’t improve much, but with this catch, Hardman is now solidified in team history.
Mahomes later expressed his gratitude in statements to the press: ‘I don’t know if it was this week, man. I played with Mecole for a long time, man. He is always ready for the moment and is someone who continues to practice hard and improve.
“And obviously, in that receiver rotation, we were changing a lot of guys all year, and those guys just continue to work.” And I mean, just like the last Super Bowl, man, it’s like you never know who he’s going to be.
“It’s about everyone being ready for the moment, and he was ready for that moment on a couple of big plays.”
