Patrick Mahomes gives Chiefs update on his major injury as he battles to overcome his ankle sprain

Despite suffering a high ankle sprain last Sunday against Cleveland, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a full practice participant Wednesday afternoon

After leaving Sunday’s game with an injury, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

In Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, Mahomes left the game early after taking a high-low hit from two defensive players.

Mahomes underwent tests at the stadium and was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

Since that diagnosis, questions have arisen about his potential availability for Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans.

That includes pundits wondering whether the Chiefs — who have already won the AFC West and currently sit atop the AFC playoff rankings as the No. 1 seed — should consider benching Mahomes so he can rest.

But after Wednesday’s practice, it appears Mahomes is trending to start this weekend.

It appears Mahomes may not be the only one returning from injury this weekend.

Wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown was fully present in practice this week, which means there is a good chance he could make his season debut on Saturday after a shoulder injury.

In a season where the Chiefs have only lost one game, they haven’t been particularly impressive offensively either.

Ten of Kansas City’s 13 wins were by one score, with five of those wins having a margin of victory of three points or less.

Mahomes isn’t exactly MVP caliber. His 3,348 passing yards are 10th in the league, his 66.7 percent completion rate is 14th and his 22 passing touchdowns are ninth. Meanwhile, the eleven interceptions he has thrown rank as the sixth-most thrown in the league.

Nevertheless, the Chiefs could officially clinch the No. 1 seed in the playoffs this weekend with a win coupled with a Buffalo Bills loss to the struggling New England Patriots.
