“I remember how scared I was and how bad it was and luckily for us the doctors were able to help,” Patrick explained. “That’s when, for me, it became something serious that I really needed to pay attention to.”

At the time, his wife Brittany, who is pregnant with their third child, called it “the scariest 30 minutes of her life.”

Last year they discovered that their son, then nine months old, is “very, very allergic to peanuts.”

The Mahomes already knew that their oldest daughter, three-year-old Sterling, was allergic to peanuts, milk and eggs.

“Since Sterling had a history of allergies, he was trying different things with Bronze and it was our first day with nuts,” Brittany explained.

‘It’s like a little packet of powder that you add to your bottle… so he took his bottle and then within about 30 minutes he became very irritable, very restless. I took off his diaper and he just had hives and hives all over him.

“Just seeing his entire body covered in hives and hives and being so uncomfortable was probably one of the scariest moments of my life.”

Mahomes’ foundation is now working with FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) to improve allergy education among Kansas City restaurants and staff.
