ESPN’s Pat McAfee announced that his father-in-law passed away suddenly.
McAfee addressed the situation on his television show with a monologue in memory of his wife’s father, Bob.
“I couldn’t run the show with this because there was still information that my wife and her family were telling friends and people close to their family,” McAfee began.
“But now that I’ve been given the all-clear, yesterday was a day that will obviously be remembered forever in our family because my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly after the show ended yesterday at a hospital here in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“He had been in hospital fighting an infection and on Friday we were told he would probably be discharged on Sunday.

McAfee’s wife, Samantha, lost her father, Bob, over the weekend in an Indianapolis hospital.
‘They had realized and he was going to be fine. So we all had high hopes and incredible optimism.
‘And then yesterday, literally as the show was ending, my wife called me and told me I had to go to the hospital because there had been an emergency.
“So I headed over there and what my wife, his mother, his aunt and everyone in his family saw was that his father was a tough guy and tried to kick ass and inevitably lost his fight on this particular day.
“When something surprises an entire family like that, it can obviously be tremendously devastating.
‘My wife is dad’s daughter. In fact, she has a bear tattooed because she calls her father Papa Bear. She has her father’s quotes all over her. Last night was obviously a very difficult night for our family.
“It was a nice reminder, and fortunately, my wife and her mom with her dad, the last thing they said to Bob, who was a great man, was: I love you.”
“I think this is a good perspective and a moment to tell everyone: Hey, tell your people you love them.” You literally have no idea what is going to happen. It can literally be the last time you see someone every time you see them.
McAfee has been married to his wife since 2020 and welcomed his first child in 2023.
‘Many people tell us that our program helps them escape from things and get away from them. Well, that’s what it is for me today, and I can’t thank you all. My wife and her mother, I love you.”
It is unclear how old Bob was and no obituary has been made available to the public at the time of publication.
McAfee and his wife got engaged in February 2019 and married on August 1, 2020.
They have since welcomed their first child together, a daughter, on May 4, 2023.
