A frustrated commuter has sparked a heated debate about the behaviour of bus drivers (and passengers) when he took revenge on a driver who allegedly left him behind.

The incident, which involved an unidentified passenger from Dublin, was captured on a video shared on Instagram by user @s.ashastack and reposted by popular meme site @Irish_Daily.

The clip has received more than 8,000 likes and attracted 250 comments debating whether the commuter was right or wrong in his extreme response to not being able to get on the bus.

The footage shows the man, wearing a black T-shirt and black jeans, walking away after a failed attempt to catch Transport for Ireland bus 27B, which runs from Eden Quay to Harristown in the Irish capital.

But the potential passenger does not walk beside or behind the vehicle to catch up with it, but rather walks in front of it to slow it down.

Due to heavy traffic blocking the adjacent side of the road, the bus driver is unable to pass the man, who is walking at a deliberately slow pace, prompting a chorus of prolonged beeps from the increasingly frustrated driver.

The visibly angry passenger can be seen recording himself on his phone while making animated gestures to express his annoyance.

Inside the bus, curious passengers can be seen crowding to the front of the upper deck to witness and film the extraordinary scene.

The video ends with the man cutting short his slow pace and running to the next nearby stop. It is unclear whether the bus driver eventually stopped to pick up the passenger.

Dozens of Instagram users praised the passenger for taking a stand against “ruthless” bus drivers, with some even sharing their own shocking experiences of being stranded at bus stops at the last minute.

One person wrote: “This is an absolutely vile action, but after experiencing Dublin buses and their drivers… I understand,” while another labelled the bus drivers “power enthusiasts.”

Another said: “Some bus drivers deserve it, they never arrive on time, they don’t stop, they’re not polite at all,” while a third added: “To be honest I’d do exactly the same thing until they let me on.”

Meanwhile, one passenger who had already been criticised shared: ‘The bus driver slammed the door in my face a month ago, even though there was space on the bus. I slammed the door and he acted like he couldn’t see me.

Dozens of Instagram users praised the passenger for taking a stand against bus drivers

Dozens of Instagram users praised the passenger for taking a stand against “ruthless” bus drivers, while others branded him “selfish” for “inconveniencing” fellow passengers.

“The people on the bus had asked him to let me on. I was visibly pregnant and had to wait 25 minutes for the next bus. I ended up crying at the bus stop. I complained to Dublin Bus and received an automated email in response.”

Another wrote: “The amount of times I see someone miss the bus when it leaves and I never see any driver stop the bus and let them on. It’s like they have no heart. You’d think the bus fare was coming out of their own pocket.”

However, not everyone was sympathetic, with some calling his actions “selfish” and condemning the passenger for his “childish behaviour”.

One person wrote: “This is ridiculous childish behaviour,” while another said: “People are so selfish nowadays. They have caused inconvenience to me, so I can cause inconvenience to others while I’m live.”

In 2013, a woman who missed a bus stopped it by lying down on the road with her legs spread apart and did not move until the driver let her on.
