He Paris 2024 Summer OlympicsIn a matter of weeks, the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad and the opening ceremony of Paris 2024 will officially take place. The Games will be the first to be held in Europe since London in 2012.

The opening ceremony marks the official start of the Games, although the sporting action begins two days earlier on Wednesday. Paris is an hour ahead of the UK.

A total of 10,500 athletes, representing 206 countries, including Team GBand approximately 120 heads of state, sovereigns and heads of government are expected to attend.

Concerns about security threats and crowd control during the event have meant a reduction of initial major plans, President Emmanuel Macron said France had prepared alternative plans in case the ceremony needed to be further modified.

The river parade will cover 6 km from east to west. It will start from the Pont d’Austerlitz, next to the Jardin des Plantes, go around the two islands of the Île Saint Louis and the Île de la Cité and pass under eight to ten bridges and gates until it reaches its final point in front of the Trocadero.

Who will carry the torch at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony?

After an 11-day journey through Greece, a 68-day French torch relay, involving 10,000 chosen torchbearers of all ages and genders, made its way across France.
