- Chalmers made an incredible play in a narrow loss
- The United States took home the gold after an incredible finish
Kyle Chalmers produced a brilliant run for Australia’s men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team in Paris, but it was not enough to earn the reigning world champions gold in a thrilling race.
The team trailed for most of the first three legs of the clash until Kai Taylor brought them back into contention for gold with a thrilling swim, followed by Chalmers, who brought them home just behind the US.
Swimming legend Ian Thorpe called it “the best relay I’ve ever seen from Kyle Chalmers” after the Australians narrowly missed out on the top spot on the podium.
Jack Cartwright and Flynn Southam left their team-mates with plenty of work to do after falling behind in their opening two games of the competition.
Caeleb Dressel and his crew brought the United States its first swimming gold in Paris.
