Paris Jackson talks about her struggle with self-image and how she ‘cut and burned’ herself

Paris Jackson has admitted that she cut herself “often” and committed suicide.

In a new episode of her Facebook Watch series, Paris, 22, talks about her struggles with self-image and harming herself during her lows suffering from depression.

The late singer Michael Jackson’s daughter said cutting herself felt like a ‘distraction’ from her ’emotional pain’ in the second episode of Unfiltered: Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn Paris.

Paris shared how she arrived when she moved in with her grandmother Katherine after her father’s death in 2009. Her diet changed and she was allowed to eat more sugary foods, including sodas and pastries.

The Soundflowers singer said, “I gained a lot of weight and it is [eating] became an addiction … and then a cousin called me fat, so I thought “OK, I can’t do that anymore”. And so I got into self-harm.

“I would cut and burn myself. I never thought I would die because I was always in control of the razor and I knew how deep I went.

Part of that was dopamine release. Dopamine isn’t called dope for nothing – it feels good.

“Things like food and sex and drugs and music and sports … there are many things that trigger dopamine release.”

She continued, “Self-harm was one of them, tattoos were one of them and so there was that and then it was also a distraction from emotional pain and the transition to physical pain and the need for control.

“Yes, I have often tried to commit suicide.” she confessed.

Paris attempted suicide when she was 15 in 2013, slit her wrist and overdosed on pain killers.

She was then sent to a therapeutic boarding school in Utah, where she spent her second year of high school and half of her junior year.

She recalled, “I couldn’t take it anymore.”
