‘I had to pick the sesame seeds off the burger bun’: parents share desperate effort to get their kids to eat

  • Parents revealed what they did to get their kids to eat dinner
  • One mother told her to get the seeds one by one from her son’s hamburger bun
  • Others had to wash their children’s food, including shiny sausages and pasta

Parents have shown how much effort they put into getting their kids to eat – including carefully de-stoning a hamburger bun.

The mother posted a picture of the bun, sitting next to a pile of sesame seeds, on Facebook asking if other parents ever had to try their hand at dinner.

And the post was inundated with comments from some very patient parents.

“I’ve had to wash cooked sausages so they don’t shine,” one mother laughed.

“I had to wash pasta sauce off pasta,” said another.

Last night I thought I’d be smart and cut the crust off the sandwich for my oldest because he NEVER eats crusts. It had melted because its crusts weren’t there. Moral of the story, I’m never going to win, ‘one mother wrote.

Another mother said she has lost count of her kids’ appetites but fears she will peel the skin off the family’s sausages forever.

While other parents said to get seeds from strawberries and watermelon.

The original poster said she would buy regular sandwiches from now on, as other parents praised her for her efforts.

‘I would have just cut a second bun and gave him two of the bottoms and had the seed covered bun to myself on both sides instead of taking them all away,’ said one mother.

Some said she gave in to her son.

‘I wouldn’t wash here, eat or not. I don’t have time to take food apart, ”one mother said.

‘I don’t really play those games. They eat it or go without it, ”agreed another.

While another said it would be fine if their child didn’t want the seeds but had to pick them for themselves.

Some said they wouldn’t mind picking seeds from the top of a roll for their children.

“I wouldn’t hesitate to do this for mine, they are only small once which also makes them happy and makes your life easier,” said another.

One woman said peeling seeds is nothing too strenuous for a child compared to what she does for herself.

‘I am 40 years old and I scrape the large pieces of strawberry off my toast from the jam, I pick the pieces of mushrooms from a pan noodle and pick the red pieces from a dried pasta / noodle snack. Also can’t handle bits of strawberry in yogurt, ‘she said.

Others said their children’s appetites have followed them into adulthood.

“When my son was young and I took him to McDonald’s for tea, he always had chicken nuggets and I always had to take out all the batter for him. So picky. His girlfriend says he still likes it now and he’s 23 years old, ‘said one mother.
