Panic moment when a seller went missing during the auction of his $6 million luxury home
- Homeowner goes MIA at an auction
- Agents at auction forced to postpone
- Seller had ‘receipt problems’
A luxury home has sold for a whopping $6 million despite the seller going AWOL for hours during the crucial bidding process.
The five-bedroom property at 126 Amalfi Drive, Isle of Capri on the Gold Coast, was scheduled to go under the hammer on Saturday at 11am.
But the owner was unreachable in China due to “poor reception” that left 22 people, including three registered bidders, in the lurch.
Ivy Realty Principal Ivy Wu said it was an unusual situation after the broker made sure the seller would be available that day.
“It was something that had never happened to us before, he was overseas and he (told us later) the reception wasn’t that great,” Ms Wu told Daily Mail Australia.

The highest bidder offered $5.65 million, which was less than the $6 million price the owner wanted for the two-story house on the Nerang River.
The real estate agent had to abandon negotiations after she and her team tried to call the seller several times.
“We had to let everyone know that we couldn’t get hold of the seller,” she said.
“It was interesting because normally the buyer doesn’t show up, not the seller, but we handled it well because we told the buyer it was beyond our control.”
Ms. Wu said they finally reached the seller in the afternoon, where negotiations continued with the enthusiastic bidder.
The buyer finally agreed to part with $6 million for the massive home on Sunday.

“We are glad that the buyer was patient enough,” said Ms. Wu.
Meanwhile, auctioneer Nigel Long said the no-show was the third time in his 15-year career that a seller had failed to show up at their auction.
“I just explained to the crowd that we had telephone communication problems,” Mr. Long told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
“It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last.”
The property features a riverside pool, pontoon, wine room and media room had attracted a lot of interest in the lead up to the auction.
