A viral graffiti trend featuring a cartoon bird known as ‘Pam’ to Melburnians has reached new heights as a hotel becomes the latest landmark to be attacked.

‘Pam the Bird’, as the character is known to locals, was painted on top of the Novotel Hotel on Collins Street in Melbourne’s central business district on Sunday.

A clip shared on social media this week showed Pam the Bird colored in black beneath the sprawling Novotel logo.

The words “He He Meow” were written below the bird’s beak.

Graffiti has divided Melburnians: some welcome public artworks similar to those in the city’s famous alleys, while others consider it vandalism.

“This is embarrassing,” one person wrote.

‘I’m sick of seeing this shit all over Melbourne!’ said another.

‘It’s not art, why does everyone like this? “It is material damage just because,” added a third.

Others struggled to understand why someone would go to such lengths to paint the caricature on the side of the hotel.

“Imagine risking your life or probably going to jail by painting a really horrible bird-like creature on buildings,” one wrote online.

“I saw this today, what the fuck,” said a second.

“This is nonsense,” a third agreed.

But others praised the anonymous graffiti artist as “Melbourne’s urban god”.

“Every day I go to work and see Pam the bird on a street sign…it makes me happy,” one person wrote.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia that officers are investigating.

The Accor Group declined to comment when contacted.

Pam the Bird has gained notoriety in Melbourne, where the image has appeared on road signs and railway lines.

Last year, graffiti even appeared on heritage-listed buildings, including the Flinders Street station clock and Uncle Toby’s factory.

The bird has also developed a large following on social media and people tag it whenever they see the graffiti.

The artist responsible for the creation of the bird, which has acquired cult status, remains a mystery.
