Two-time Asian Cup winners, Pakistan will start its 2018 campaign against the Hong Kong minnows. The second match of the 2018 Asian Cup will be a perfect platform for Pakistan to put a marker and make a strong statement. Pakistan won the Asian Cup for the last time in 2012 when the tournament was held in Bangladesh, but this time they hope to win the title with the tournament being played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Pakistan has hosted most of its international matches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah since the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team. Meanwhile, Hong Kong will make its second appearance in the continental event after being part of the 2004 edition. (SCANNER LIVE)

Hong Kong hopes to prove to others that they are not there just to make up the numbers. Hong Kong is in Group A along with Pakistan and India and won this year's Asian Cup by beating United Arab Emirates in the final of the qualifying tournament. Before the tournament began, ICC granted ODI status to all Asian Cup matches. That announcement meant that all matches involving the Hong Kong cricket team, the only team in the tournament without ODI status, will be classified as ODI. Hong Kong, after playing in Pakistan, will face India on September 18.

Pakistan will be the favorite in the match, since it is almost three years that they lost an ODI in the UAE. The last defeat for Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates had been against England in November 2015 and since then they have won all eight games played there. While Pakistan won all of its last five games, Hong Kong only won two of its last five games and lost three.
