A dog owner was caught on camera being slammed against the porch railing after his eager dog spotted a rabbit and ran off while on a leash.

Ryan, of Watertown in Litchfield County, Connecticut, took his dog to the bathroom on July 1.

His doorbell camera captured the painful consequences of not seeing the rabbit – unlike his dog.

Just as Ryan lets his excited dog come out of the porch, he spots a rabbit in the distance and immediately jumps after it.  Since Ryan is still holding the retractable leash when the dog runs away, he gets carried away

He turns away, as if he plans to stay on the porch, but his dog sees a rabbit in the distance and immediately jumps after it.

Since Ryan is still holding the retractable leash when the dog reaches the end of its range, he is suddenly lifted off his feet.

He slams into the mid-height railings and is nearly pulled over and onto the ground below.

Fortunately, he manages to find his balance and hangs on the edge of the railing for a few seconds.

He then stands up again and catches his breath before looking around as if nothing happened.
