A man is fighting for his life after a horrific high-speed crash in which a car burst into flames before its three occupants fled the scene.

Emergency services were called to Davies Road in Padstow, southwest of Sydney, at around 10.40pm on Sunday following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

The white Audi is believed to have been stolen and was travelling at high speed when it collided with a silver Nissan that was pulling into the road.

The Audi burst into flames due to the force of the impact and firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze but the car was completely destroyed.

Paramedics treated the Nissan driver at the scene before rushing him to St George’s Hospital in a critical condition.

Witnesses told police that three men, who were travelling in the Audi, fled the collision before emergency services arrived at the scene.

Police have launched a search for the occupants of the Audi and want to speak to them about the accident.

A crime scene was established and officers from the Accident Investigation Unit launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact Bankstown Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
