Pablo Mari made his first appearance for Arsenal in the club’s defeat under 23s against London’s rivals Chelsea on Monday.
Mari, who signed a first six-month loan in January for a fee of around £ 4 million from the Brazilian side Flamengo, played with Rob Holding at the heart of the defense.
Mari and Holding, still looking for full competitive fitness, both played the first 45 minutes before being replaced at the break when the Gunners lost 2-1 to Chelsea in Borehamwood.

Mari’s inclusion in the youth team must have delighted manager Mikel Arteta, who had to do without his new signature due to a minor injury.
The 26-year-old Spaniard was brought to the club to support the defense in the short term, but he will then participate permanently in the summer.
His first taste of action for Arsenal, however, ended in disappointment despite the fact that the club went under the age of 23 in the 16th minute.

Folarin Balogun broke the deadlock in Meadow Park after collecting the ball, before being hit from a distance of 25 meters in a cross-shot in the top corner.
Chelsea, however, hung Arsenal back via Armando Broja in the 31st minute after he had risen highest from a corner near the nearby post.
And then, immediately, Chelsea turned the game upside down through Billy Gilmour, who eventually went home on the third attempt.
