A three-year-old girl is fighting for her life in a coma after nearly drowning at a children’s party.
The boy is currently clinging to life at Gold Coast University Hospital after the incident occurred at a home in Oxenford, on the far north of the Gold Coast, on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the residence at around 2.45pm on Sunday.
Police allege a pool gate was left open, allowing the three-year-old to enter the pool area while adults were supervising other children on a bouncy castle, the police reported. Costa Dorada Newsletter.
CCTV footage is understood to show the moment the boy allegedly entered the pool and attempted to reach a floating mattress before falling in.
The girl is believed to have been at the bottom of the pool for several minutes before a man pulled her out and revived her.
“The information we have to date is that there was a party there with a number of children and adults present,” Gold Coast Police Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles told the newspaper.
‘What they allegedly did was leave the pool gate open to allow the children to move between the pool and the rest of the party.

‘While the adults and other children were distracted in a nearby bouncy castle, the three-year-old boy entered the pool area.
‘According to CCTV footage we have seen, she tried to reach an inflatable mattress floating in the pool and fell into the pool.
‘Several minutes passed until the owner of the house located her at the bottom of the pool, grabbed her and pulled her out.
‘She had to be resuscitated as she had practically stopped breathing.
“He managed to revive her. She is in a coma in hospital. We do not yet know the severity of her injuries.”
The incident is being investigated by the Queensland Police Service’s Child Protection Investigation Unit and has prompted a warning to other parents as warm weather arrives early in the region.
“The message to everyone, especially with the warmer weather coming, is to make sure the pool gates are closed,” said Interim Superintendent Knowles. “Make sure those large bodies of water are safe from young people.
‘Please be careful around swimming pools and secure them.’
