MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Agriculture on Wednesday seized smuggled Indian buffalo meat in Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
The smuggled meat was found at a wet market in Kadiwa during a joint inspection by the Department of Agriculture Office of the Assistant Secretary for Inspection and Enforcement (DA-IE), the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and the Philippine Coast Guard.
During the inspection, 1,714.1 kilograms of Indian buffalo meat worth P445,666.00 was recovered.
The smuggled meat will be taken to an NMIS facility for immediate sentencing.
Meanwhile, DA-IE Deputy Secretary James A. Layug asked the public to report suspicious activities and cooperate with the agency to enhance food safety.
