A property management giant and its security contractors have come under fire after a guard dog was seen locked in a small cage at a demolition site.

A surprised resident noticed the “big, skinny bitzer” as she walked with her partner through the former Toombul shopping center in Brisbane, northeast, on Monday.

He claimed the dog could not sit upright in the cage and began howling at four security guards, who ignored the animals and calls from locals for help.

The site’s owner, Mirvac, hired security for the site after streams of ‘urban explorers’ burst in to take a final look at the center soon to be demolished and ruined by the 2022 floods.

A Mirvac spokesperson said the guard dogs were placed in cages only for their safety during transport and complied with the company’s animal welfare policy.
