Parents at a Pennsylvania school are outraged over an “extreme” school volleyball practice that left their children covered in bruises and blisters.

As temperatures continue to break records, school districts across the country are implementing extra precautions to protect students. But parents are accusing the Woodland Hills High School volleyball coach of putting their children’s health at risk.

Woodland Hills father Will Safran is furious after his daughter returned from volleyball practice with serious hand injuries.

The coach reportedly required players to do 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups every night and send him videos. When some did not comply, the coach allegedly made the entire team “do one lap around the burpee track and one lap around the bear track,” he told the local ABC affiliate. WTAE.

“It was 95 degrees. Their hands were directly on the ground, on the uneven ground. All the girls had cuts and blisters on their hands and when they tried to ask them to stop or do it on the grass, they were told ‘if you ask again, I’ll give you another lap,'” Safran said. WPXI.

“It’s child abuse, it’s basically child abuse, that’s how I see it,” Safran told WPXI.

“When I picked up my daughter, she and her best friend showed me their hands, their broken blisters, still blisters all black and dirt under the blisters.”

Safran is outraged that a coach just a month into his tenure would treat high school students this way.

He reported the incident to the district and demanded the coach’s dismissal.

“The District is aware, is investigating and the matter is confidential,” Woodland Hills School Superintendent Daniel Castagna told WTAE in an email.

The district has acknowledged the complaint and is investigating, but details remain confidential.

Tuesday’s practice was canceled as parents met to seek answers.

“This is not the army. These are just girls,” Safran said.
