Outraged advocates of child protection have criticized the sentence of a stepfather addicted to ice that hit a small child who eventually died of his serious injuries.
William Andrew O'Sullivan was sentenced to nine years in prison for the death of Mason Jet Lee, 22 months, but will be eligible for parole in less than four years.
The child was found with extensive injuries at the O & # 39; Sullivan house in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, in June 2016.

The little boy (pictured) was found with extensive injuries at the O & # 39; Sullivan house in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, in June 2016.
The sentence was kept secret for a week because of concerns from co-defendants, Mason's mother, Annemarree Lee, Courier reported.
The young man was beaten so severely that he suffered anal injuries, broken leg and ruptured bowel, spending the last days vomiting, feverish and dehydrated.
O 'Sullivan could not help the little boy in his last days, but yelled at him to "shut up" when he cried and kicked him and kicked him.
Founder of Bravehearts, a leading child protection organization in Australia, Hetty Johnson said that the inadequate phrase shows that the system is failing children.
& # 39; How can you kill a child and leave after four years? It simply challenges any kind of logic, does not give any example, "said Ms. Johnston.
"I think they need to throw out the whole sentencing regime and start over again."

Queensland Opposition child safety spokesperson Ros Bates said the system needs a review.
"I'm sure the public does not believe that such a benevolent prayer is enough for what that child went through," he said.
The state attorney general has a period of 28 days to file an appeal of the judgment.
"As in all cases, DPP is studying the ruling and will notify the attorney general if there are prospects for appeal," a spokesperson said in a statement.
The Attorney General has been left with a small window to fight for a longer sentence, since the seven days have already passed.
O & # 39; Sullivan pleaded guilty to four separate charges before the Queensland Supreme Court, including murder and cruelty against a 16-year-old minor.
Mason, who was subjected to negligence and abuse in his short life, spent his last hours with blue lips, wrapped in a towel and grunting.

In addition to the injuries, traces of methamphetamine were found in his blood.
In the months prior to his death, Mason was treated for multiple injuries and was admitted to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital for three weeks in February 2016, a court was previously informed.
O & # 39; Sullivan tried to blame the paramedics for the death of Mason by responding slowly, despite arriving at the property six minutes after being called by a friend.
He also lied to the police saying he found Mason with blue lips and his mouth holding a bottle before calling an ambulance.
O & # 39; Sullivan, who has long fought against drug addiction, also claimed that his 12-year-old "serial killer" daughter could have hit the boy.
Defense attorney Ruth O & # 39; Gorman said O & # 39; Sullivan was unconsciously beaten by another inmate since she was in custody.
She said that earlier this year he was forced to spend 13 days in the hospital with a skull fracture after the prisoners beat, kicked and hit him severely.
Mason's mother will face a trial only for judges since her lawyer argued that juries could be influenced by media coverage.
